Anthony L. Rini is a distinguished senior leader at Northeastern University. With over 30 years of experience in academic administration and leadership, Rini has been instrumental in optimizing the institution’s administrative functions and operational efficiency. As Chief Operating Officer, Rini ensures operational excellence and strategic growth of the institution by aligning the operational functions within his purview – including campus planning, real estate, facilities, human resources, annual operating and capital budgets, as well as long-term financial planning – to best support Northeastern’s Academic Plan.

Anthony Rini holds a Doctor of Education, specializing in Higher Education and Higher Education Administration, from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a Master of Public Administration from University at Albany. His academic background is complemented by robust professional contributions. Prior to being appointed Chief Operating Officer in July 2024, Rini served as Northeastern University’s Vice President for Administration and Finance (August 2019-July 2024), Vice President for Finance (2017-2019), and Senior Vice Provost for Budget, Planning and Administration (2011-2017). In these capacities, and during his tenure at New York University (1999-2008) and City University of New York (2008-2011), Rini sharpened his leadership, financial, administrative, and operational acumen.

Under Anthony Rini's leadership, Northeastern has achieved numerous milestones, including the development and implementation of the hybrid budget model and robust long-range financial planning. Rini has also been instrumental in shaping the institution’s crisis response management. These achievements reflect Rini’s commitment to innovation and transformational change. Further, Rini’s contributions have ensured Northeastern University remains agile and resilient throughout a period of sustained rapid growth in the institution’s global campus footprint, student enrollment, and research enterprise.

In addition to his core responsibilities, Anthony Rini co-chairs the Campaign Champion initiative in partnership with University Advancement at Northeastern University. In this capacity, Rini spearheads employee engagement strategies to encourage philanthropic giving to the institution.
