Apply for and use an AMEX (NUCard)

If you travel or purchase goods and services on Northeastern’s behalf, you should apply for the Northeastern AMEX card, also called the NUCard. The Northeastern AMEX is an efficient way to make purchases less than $5,000.

Solution 1: Apply for and use an AMEX (NUCard)

All Northeastern AMEX cards have a single transaction limit of $5,000 and a monthly limit of $10,000.

Northeastern AMEX card holders are required to complete Concur training online before activating and using their card. Concur is our tool for reconciling AMEX purchases and reimbursing employees for out-of-pocket expenses.

  If most of your spending will be to buy goods or services, apply for the AMEX CBS (Blue) card. If most of your spending will be for travel, apply for the AMEX IBCP (Green) card. Please rename the document to include your first and last name.
  
  Complete the AMEX Application—CBS Card (Blue) or the AMEX Application—IBCP Card (Green).

  Send the form to your supervisor* for approval.
  
  *If you are in College of Engineering (DIV23): Please forward your application to a.mayo@northeastern.edu or ja.sun@northeastern.edu for additional approval.
  
  *If you are in D’Amore-McKim School of Business (DIV21): Please forward your application to m.costa_desousa@northeastern.edu for additional approval.

  Send your completed form to Tabitha Yuen at t.yuen@northeastern.edu.

  Make sure you have taken the Online Concur training on Canvas before start using your card.

  When you receive the AMEX card at your home address, complete the AMEX Cardholder Agreement—for Staff or the AMEX Cardholder Agreement—for Faculty and PIs and send it to Tabitha Yuen at t.yuen@northeastern.edu to activate your card.

FAQ

My AMEX charge was declined / I lost my card / I see fraudulent charges
Please call American Express and notify them of the situation (US 1.800.528.2122 or 623.492.8427 for Non-US/International numbers)

If AMEX provides you with a new card, you must email Tabitha Yuen at t.yuen@northeastern.edu an AMEX Cardholder Agreement—for Staff or the AMEX Cardholder Agreement—for Faculty and PIs with information related to the new AMEX.

Your card will be suspended until a new agreement form is received.
When do card limits renew?
Card limits refresh around the 6th of every month.
I am moving to a new role in the University, but need to keep my AMEX Card
You can keep your corporate card if it is needed in your new role, but we will need your new supervisor to send an email approval to Tabitha Yuen at t.yuen@northeastern.edu, before your current job is terminated, otherwise, it may be cancelled.
What if I don’t need my AMEX card anymore?
If for any reason you don’t need your AMEX card in your role anymore, you must email Tabitha Yuen at t.yuen@northeastern.edu to have your card cancelled. It is recommended that cards not in use be cancelled to prevent the risk of fraudulent charges.
Can I request a new card?
Yes, you can request a replacement card by emailing the card services specialist or by calling the number on the back of your card (1-800-528-2122 for US or 623-492-8427 for international).

Your card number will change, and the card will arrive in a suspended status.

To have your replacement card unsuspended, please email the card services specialist (Tabitha Yuen, t.yuen@northeastern.edu) with a new signed agreement form found in Solution 1 above.
