Certify an independent contractor

Step 1

Confirm that the following criteria have been met:

• “Freedom from control”—the university does not have direct control over the trade or business.
• The work is outside of the usual scope of Northeastern’s business.
• The contractor is from an independent trade, occupation, or business.

Step 2

Contact Risk Services to complete the Independent Contractor Certification Process.

Step 3

Obtain a signature for the form from your department head.

Step 4

Email the completed form to procurement@northeastern.edu.
