Requisitions
A requisition is a document that starts the purchasing process. You should create a requisition in Banner Finance before buying goods or services on the university’s behalf.
How to Complete and Submit
To fill out a requisition form in Banner Finance, you must first validate the vendor you plan to hire.
Step 1
Log in to myNortheastern.
Step 2
Go to Services & Links, then select Banner Finance SSB.
Step 3
Click on Finance.
Step 4
Click on Requisition.
Step 5
Click on Code Lookup at the bottom of the page.
Step 6
Under Type, select Vendor.
Step 7
Under Title Criteria, enter the vendor’s name in the following format: “%Vendor Name%”. (Note: Use the percentage symbols and capital letters.)
Step 8
Click on Execute Query.
Step 9
Copy and paste the vendor ID in the Vendor ID field. Click on Validate. (Note: If the vendor does not exist in the system, search for New Vendor in Step 6 and follow the remaining steps.)
Step 10
Click on Vendor Validate.
Step 11
All vendor details will auto-populate. (Note: Don’t change any auto-populated information. If you do so, the requisition will contain errors.)
You cannot submit a requisition without validating the commodity in the form.
Step 1
Log in to the requisition form.
Step 2
Under Commodity Description, type in details about the commodity. (Note: If the commodity description exceeds the character limit, click on the number corresponding to the line and type in remaining details.)
Step 3
Under U/M, select EA.
Step 4
Under Quantity, enter the number of items or services.
Step 5
Under Unit Price, enter the total dollar amount.
Step 6
Click on Commodity Validate.
You cannot submit a requisition form without validating the requisition.
Step 1
Log in to the requisition form.
Step 2
Click on Dollars.
Step 3
Under Chart, type N.
Step 4
Under Index, enter your department’s index code.
Step 5
Under Amount, enter the total dollar amount from the box above.
Step 6
Click on Validate.
Step 7
Fill in the Account Code. (Note: If you don’t know the code, refer to the Banner Code lookup located on the Finance Division website.)
Step 8
Click on Validate.
Step 9
Click on Complete.
Step 10
Write down the requisition number; you will need it later.
You can add special instructions or other information in the requisition form.
Step 1
Log in to the requisition form.
Step 2
Click on Document Text.
Step 3
A new window will pop up with two sections. In those sections, add details about the vendor or special instructions about delivery of the purchase order.
Step 4
Click on Save.
Step 1
Log in to myNortheastern.
Step 2
Go to Services & Links, then select Banner Finance SSB.
Step 3
Click View Document.
Step 4
Under Document Number, enter the requisition number.
Step 5
Click on Approval History. If the dollar amount of this transaction exceeds your approval limit, contact your supervisor to approve it.
Step 6
Email all supporting documents to procurement@northeastern.edu and include “requisition” in the subject line. If the vendor is new to Northeastern, include the vendor’s W-9 (for U.S.-based vendors) or the International Supplier Registration Form (for international vendors being paid in U.S. dollars).
Step 7
Once the requisition is approved, the purchase order number will appear in Banner Finance within 24–48 hours. The purchase order will be mailed directly to the vendor unless you’ve given special instructions in the document text section.
